The Research
Clear, radiant skin is intrinsically connected to the health of the skin’s microbiome. This complex ecosystem is influenced by various factors—including its acidic pH, vital enzyme function, moisture reserves, and signalling proteins—which is why maintaining a healthy acidic balance is essential.
To optimise the skin’s immune defence systems, desirable bacterial colonies must be evenly distributed and active. Changes to the epidermal ecosystem caused by changes to skin pH or compromised barrier function, may result in an accumulation of pathogenic Colony Forming Units (CFUs) inside pores. This may lead to clogged pores, breakouts, increased sebaceous output and a rough, dry, sensitive texture.
RATIONALE Research has identified and combined two potent yet calming actives – Salicylic Acid and Piroctone Olamine that help to restore optimal CFUs, controlling congestion and breakouts.
In addition, an imbalanced pH impairs the function of enzymes, lipid synthesis and cellular turnover, while depleting our skin of essential structural proteins. These effects are further accelerated following exposure to pollution and solar damage.
